Aside from the controversies and people’s numerous attempt to restore the painting, its general appearance and impact to viewers made Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper receive a lot of reviews from different critiques all over the world. The painting’s popularity was not only due to the fact that Judas was fully included in the group but also because the figures engage in lively interaction.
The purpose of the painting was a decoration for the dining hall of the Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy for Leonardo’s patron Ludovico Sforza.
The Last Supper painting was commonly known to depict Jesus Christ’s last meal before he was crucified. According to history records, this was the time when Jesus tells his discicples that one of his followers would betray him that in turn will lead to Jesus Christ’s execution.
After more than 20 years of attempted restorations, the painting is now confined at its original location with a sophisticated air filtration system, moistured monitored environment, and dust-filtering chambers. This environment was designed by Pinin Brambilla Barcilon and her team so that further damage of the painting will be avoided.
Even though viewers were only allowed inside the chamber for 15 minutes, visitors were still astounded by the painting. Reviews of Leonardo’s The Last Supper overflow from people visiting the chamber. Foreigners travel all the way to Italy and book for the tour weeks before they arrive in Milan just to get a quick view of this popular painting.
Below are just some of the reviews from travelers who had spent 15 minutes inside the chamber viewing Leonardo’s The Last Supper;
“It will be a 15 minutes I will always remember and I thank DaVinci for pushing our thoughts into a new depth and I thank the church for their attitude of grace!”
“Yes, you have to get tickets in advance and you have to be there at exactly the designated time, but if you’re in northern Italy it’s something you HAVE to do. Even without the Da Vinci Code and the religious theme, it’s one of the world’s most famous paintings and worth seeing despite the slight hassle.”
“The Last Supper is something I have always wanted to see, but never thought I would. It will always remain one of the highlights of my life. If you have a chance to go then take it, you will not regret it.”
